“Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self.” ~ The Bhavagad Gita
Throughout my entire life, I have always been a seeker… one who questions the meaning of life and strives to find meaning in every experience. This search has inevitably led me down many paths throughout the course of life, some which brought me great joy, and some which came with much heartache and pain. But in the end, I wouldn’t change a single step of my journey because it has led me to this very moment, which is, in the end, the very best place to be.
Like many things in my life, my yoga journey began as a process of self-inquiry. The very first time I stepped onto a mat was in 2004 at an inpatient eating disorder treatment facility. For me, yoga served as a reintroduction back into my body and helped me redefine the relationship I had with myself. Through focusing first on the physical body, I was then able to then go deeper into the mental, emotional, and spiritual layers and allow space for healing and integration. Yoga helped me let go of what no longer served me, challenge the dominant discourse, and step into my authentic self. And through this process, something truly magical happened: I found myself transitioning from seeker to finder.
Off the mat, I am blessed with a loving husband, four amazing children, and two sweet but sassy fur babies. I work full-time as a high school counselor, which I would continue to do even if I won the lottery (the true sign of a job that fills the cup). I feel extremely fortunate to be part of the Empower family. It is an honor to be able to walk alongside others on this journey of the self, through the self, to the self. I look forward to seeing you on your mat and sharing this journey with you!
